Cabletelevision Advertising Bureau (CAB) Completes Management Expansion
Appointments Finalize Transformation from Information Bureau to Television Advocacy Group
January 10, 2006
The Cabletelevision Advertising Bureau (CAB) has announced the appointment of four executives to its restructured management team, capping a two-year transformation from information bureau to direct-to-client television advocacy group.
- Mr. David Leitner has been named vice president of sales and marketing after several years as a senior-level client side media director, most recently with Atari.
- Ms. Cynthia Perkins-Roberts has been promoted to the newly created position of vice president diversity sales and marketing.
- Mr. Chris Jones becomes the CAB's vice president of corporate communications from Marsh, Inc., where he was assistant vice president for North American communications.
- Ms. Annelisa Gadea, a former media planning manager at Nick @ Nite/MTV Networks, has been named to the new position of director sales and marketing.
The additions complete the CAB's restructuring, offering a senior level sales force that includes six former media and agency professionals with the credentials to help advertisers and their agencies best tackle the television market. Leitner's appointment further strengthens CAB's media sales group headed by Chuck Thompson (senior vice president, sales & marketing). Leitner joins Ira Sussman (vice president, research) and Danielle DeLauro (vice president, sales & marketing) in forming a team with a depth and breadth of experience developing national and local advertising campaigns. The addition of Leitner positions the CAB as eminently qualified to present TV's many emerging options credibly to advertisers and their agencies.
"These appointments complete the overhaul of our senior leadership," said CAB president and CEO Sean Cunningham. "We have built a nucleus of seasoned media executives who can truly counsel advertisers and their agencies on the evolving television landscape. Each offers a dynamic background that will infuse energy into the organization and enhances our ability to provide television insights to as many decision makers as possible."
The management expansion completes a reorganization that began when Cunningham joined the CAB in July 2003 from Universal McCann where he was managing director of four strategic operating units. In that time, the CAB has shifted its focus from informational bureau to a direct-to-client model designed to show advertisers and agencies how to maximize the full potential of television as a sales medium.
Along with Thompson and DeLauro, Leitner will spearhead the CAB's advertiser and agency sales efforts. His background is a balance of client and agency media experience. He joins the CAB from Atari, where he served as director of media and market research. During his tenure, he instituted the company's first advertising guidelines and was responsible for incorporating sales data into the company's advertising decision making process. Prior to Atari, he served as senior media manager for Sony Electronics. Leitner's agency experience includes time with MediaVest/D'Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles in several positions working with clients such as Coca Cola, Kraft and Burger King. Additionally, Leitner served as media director for the Masterfoods (Mars, Inc.) account in Moscow, Russia.
New Heads of Diversity Sales and Corporate Communications Named
Cynthia Perkins-Roberts has been appointed vice president, diversity marketing and business development, a critical area of expansion for the CAB. She most recently served as associate vice president of CAB's multicultural marketing unit - an endeavor she developed from its inception in 2000. Her efforts have encompassed the initiation of multicultural marketing alliances with agencies, advertisers and research companies. The widely distributed resources she has created include the online Multicultural Marketing Resource Center, The Hispanic Marketer's Guide to Cable, the 2004-2005 Upfront Multicultural Marketing Guide and most recently Cultural Connections: The Multicultural Marketing Magazine. In her new role, Perkins-Roberts will lead CAB's continued diversity sales efforts that now include the emerging GLBT market. Additionally, Perkins-Roberts will oversee recruitment efforts on college campuses designed to encourage minority candidates to seek careers in television advertising sales. Prior to the CAB, Perkins-Roberts held sales positions with Discovery Communications and Capital Cities/ABC.
Chris Jones has been named the CAB's new vice president, corporate communications responsible for public relations, internal communications and brand stewardship. He joins the CAB from Marsh, Inc., the world's largest commercial insurance brokerage, where he served as assistant vice president, corporate communications. While there he built the company's North American media relations program in 48 U.S. markets. Prior to Marsh, he served as director of corporate communications for Cendant Corporation. He began his career with ESPN as an associate in the network's corporate communications group.
Annelisa Gadea comes to the CAB after stints on both the client and agency side. Her experience includes serving as a media planning manager for TV Land and Nick @ Nite/MTV Networks. While there she developed on-air promotional campaigns and facilitated activities designed to achieve improved ratings while reinforcing brand image. Prior to MTV Networks, she served as a media planner for MediaEdge:CIA/WPP working with clients that included AT&T and Zurich.
